Allison Transmission celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2015

Allison Transmission Holdings Inc. is celebrating its centennial in 2015 with a series of special events and activities.

“The history of our company and our founder is incredibly rich,” said Lawrence E. Dewey, president of Allison Transmission. “We are excited to share that legacy with our employees, business partners and the communities where our brand operates around the world this year.”

Allison traces its history back to the formation of the Indianapolis Speedway Team on September 14, 1915. As co-founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and part owner of several racing teams, James A. Allison, a renowned inventor, innovator and businessman, established a precision machinery shop and experimental plant on Main Street in the Speedway, which he named the Allison Experimental Company, to support his auto racing endeavors.

“Our company was built on a foundation of innovation, quality and reliability,” said Dewey. “Even though it’s been 100 years, I’m proud to say that these values remain our guiding principles to this day. We make our world a better place with our products and services.”

Today, Allison Transmission is the largest manufacturer of automatic transmissions for commercial vehicles and a leader in hybrid powertrains. The company employs approximately 2,700 people worldwide, operates in more than 80 countries, including manufacturing sites in the USA, Hungary and India, and generates annual revenues of $2 billion.
